1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Skim mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Skim is an AI-powered companion app that helps users discover and summarize YouTube content. We provide curated feeds based on your YouTube subscriptions and AI-generated summaries of videos to help you decide what to watch.

3. User Accounts

To use certain features of Skim, you may create an account using Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or use the app anonymously. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.

Anonymous accounts are temporary and may be automatically deleted after 24 hours of inactivity. To preserve your data, we recommend signing in with Google or Apple.

4. YouTube API Services

Skim uses YouTube API Services to access your subscriptions and display video content. By using Skim, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.

You can revoke Skim's access to your YouTube data at any time through your Google security settings.

5. AI-Generated Content

Skim uses artificial intelligence to generate video summaries, takeaways, and analyses. These are provided for informational purposes only and may not always be fully accurate. We do not guarantee the completeness or correctness of AI-generated content. The original video content remains the authoritative source.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, other accounts, or connected systems.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its servers and networks.
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service beyond normal app usage.
  • Redistribute AI-generated summaries for commercial purposes without our consent.

7. Intellectual Property

The Skim app, website, and original content (excluding user-generated content and YouTube video content) are the property of Skim and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

YouTube video content, thumbnails, and metadata remain the property of their respective creators and are displayed under the YouTube API Services terms.

8. Account Termination and Data Deletion

You may stop using the Service at any time. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at [email protected].

Upon account deletion, we will remove your profile, preferences, saved videos, interactions, and feedback within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or engage in abusive behavior.

9. Third-Party Services

Skim relies on third-party services to operate, including but not limited to:

  • YouTube API Services for video content and subscriptions.
  • Google and Apple authentication for sign-in.
  • AI/LLM providers for video summarization.

These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

10. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

In no event shall Skim be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting the updated Terms on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of France, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of France.
